Who it suits

It is usually bought for people comfortable working inside a case and a PC build or an upgrade.

Background

Components have to match the rest of the build. Socket, chipset, power draw and physical clearance decide compatibility before performance ever comes into it. Against the other 552 PC components we list, this one sits towards the upper end of the range at R35 699, with most falling between R1 443 and R26 486.

Points to check

• Look at the specification you will still care about in two years, not only the one that matters this week.
• If you are unsure whether this suits your setup, ask us before ordering rather than after.
• If this is replacing something you already own, check the two are actually compatible rather than assuming.
• Read the specification rather than the headline — the number in the title is rarely the one that decides the fit.
• Check what is included in the box, as bundled cables and adapters vary between models and regions.
