A good fit for

This smartphone suits daily personal use and people upgrading from an older handset.

How to think about it

A phone is the device most people replace least often and use most, so the specification that matters is the one you will still be happy with in two or three years — storage and battery far more than headline processor speed. Against the other 407 smartphones we list, this one sits around the middle of the range at R6 505, with most falling between R249 and R23 389.

What to confirm

• If you are unsure whether this suits your setup, ask us before ordering rather than after.
• Battery capacity matters more than headline speed for most people. A phone that lasts the day beats one that benchmarks well.
• Check the storage size against how you actually use a phone — photos and video fill a handset far faster than apps do.
• If this is replacing something you already own, check the two are actually compatible rather than assuming.
