Ugreen External USB 3.0 to Dual-Bay SATA Dock (UG-50857)

If you are shopping for a hub or dock, the Ugreen External USB 3.0 to Dual-Bay SATA Dock is one of the options we stock.

The details

• Brand: Ugreen
• Model / MPN: UG-50857
• Condition: New

Who it suits

It is usually bought for desk setups running several peripherals and laptops short on ports.

Background

A hub shares one connection between several devices, so total bandwidth is finite. What the host laptop supports sets the ceiling, not the hub. Against the other 266 hubs and docks we list, this one sits towards the affordable end of the range at R789, with most falling between R319 and R16 514.

Points to check

• If this is replacing something you already own, check the two are actually compatible rather than assuming.
• Check which ports you actually need and whether the hub supports pass-through charging.
• Read the specification rather than the headline — the number in the title is rarely the one that decides the fit.
• Compare this against the other options in the range before deciding, since the closest alternative is often a better fit.
• Look at the specification you will still care about in two years, not only the one that matters this week.
