It is usually bought for people who need a portable main machine and work and study.

Background

A laptop is a set of compromises between speed, battery life, weight and screen size. There is no configuration that wins on all four, so the useful question is which of them you are willing to give up. Against the other 4139 laptops we list, this one sits towards the affordable end of the range at R8 099, with most falling between R3 609 and R41 862.

Points to check

• Screen size drives portability more than weight does. A 16-inch machine is a desk machine in practice.
• Match the processor to the work: light office and browsing needs far less than video editing or compiling.
• Where a listing offers several configurations, the difference is usually memory or storage rather than the core hardware.
