A good fit for

This smartphone suits anyone who wants current hardware without a contract and daily personal use.

How to think about it

A phone is the device most people replace least often and use most, so the specification that matters is the one you will still be happy with in two or three years — storage and battery far more than headline processor speed. Against the other 407 smartphones we list, this one sits around the middle of the range at R13 756, with most falling between R249 and R23 389.

What to confirm

• Battery capacity matters more than headline speed for most people. A phone that lasts the day beats one that benchmarks well.
• Check what is included in the box, as bundled cables and adapters vary between models and regions.
• If you are moving from another phone, check what transfer tools the manufacturer provides so setup is not a manual job.
