A good fit for

This smartphone suits people upgrading from an older handset and anyone who wants current hardware without a contract.

How to think about it

A phone is the device most people replace least often and use most, so the specification that matters is the one you will still be happy with in two or three years — storage and battery far more than headline processor speed. Against the other 407 smartphones we list, this one sits around the middle of the range at R11 696, with most falling between R249 and R23 389.

What to confirm

• If this is replacing something you already own, check the two are actually compatible rather than assuming.
• Where a listing offers several configurations, the difference is usually memory or storage rather than the core hardware.
• Confirm the model supports the network bands you use before ordering, particularly if you move between providers.
