A good fit for

This smartphone suits daily personal use and people upgrading from an older handset.

How to think about it

A phone is the device most people replace least often and use most, so the specification that matters is the one you will still be happy with in two or three years — storage and battery far more than headline processor speed. Against the other 407 smartphones we list, this one sits towards the upper end of the range at R17 196, with most falling between R249 and R23 389.

What to confirm

• Look at the specification you will still care about in two years, not only the one that matters this week.
• Compare this against the other options in the range before deciding, since the closest alternative is often a better fit.
• Read the specification rather than the headline — the number in the title is rarely the one that decides the fit.
