Who this is for

It is a sensible fit for people upgrading from an older handset and daily personal use.

Some context

A phone is the device most people replace least often and use most, so the specification that matters is the one you will still be happy with in two or three years — storage and battery far more than headline processor speed. Against the other 407 smartphones we list, this one sits around the middle of the range at R13 756, with most falling between R249 and R23 389.

Worth checking

• Battery capacity matters more than headline speed for most people. A phone that lasts the day beats one that benchmarks well.
• Compare this against the other options in the range before deciding, since the closest alternative is often a better fit.
• Check the storage size against how you actually use a phone — photos and video fill a handset far faster than apps do.
