Who it suits

It is usually bought for a fixed workstation and people who want upgradeable hardware.

Background

Desktops give you more performance per rand than laptops and stay upgradeable for years, at the cost of being fixed to one place. For anyone who works at the same desk daily, that is usually the right trade. Against the other 1325 desktop PCs we list, this one sits towards the affordable end of the range at R2 602, with most falling between R2 678 and R41 030.

Points to check

• Confirm the variant matches the one you need; near-identical model codes often differ in one specification that matters.
• A desktop is the easiest machine to upgrade, so a modest starting configuration is less of a risk than on a laptop.
• Check what is included in the box, as bundled cables and adapters vary between models and regions.
• Check the exact model and variant against what you own before ordering, as compatibility is usually model-specific.
• Look at the specification you will still care about in two years, not only the one that matters this week.
