A good fit for

This desktop PC suits a fixed workstation and home offices with room for a tower.

How to think about it

Desktops give you more performance per rand than laptops and stay upgradeable for years, at the cost of being fixed to one place. For anyone who works at the same desk daily, that is usually the right trade. Against the other 1325 desktop PCs we list, this one sits towards the affordable end of the range at R2 023, with most falling between R2 678 and R41 030.

What to confirm

• If this is replacing something you already own, check the two are actually compatible rather than assuming.
• Look at the specification you will still care about in two years, not only the one that matters this week.
• Where a listing offers several configurations, the difference is usually memory or storage rather than the core hardware.
• Check the case size against the space you have, and whether the parts you might add later will fit.
• A desktop is the easiest machine to upgrade, so a modest starting configuration is less of a risk than on a laptop.
