Background

A laptop is a set of compromises between speed, battery life, weight and screen size. There is no configuration that wins on all four, so the useful question is which of them you are willing to give up. Against the other 4139 laptops we list, this one sits towards the upper end of the range at R58 588, with most falling between R3 609 and R41 862.

Points to check

• Look at the specification you will still care about in two years, not only the one that matters this week.
• Read the specification rather than the headline — the number in the title is rarely the one that decides the fit.
• Where a listing offers several configurations, the difference is usually memory or storage rather than the core hardware.
