Most customers choosing this are after people who need a portable main machine and anyone replacing an ageing laptop.

Worth knowing

A laptop is a set of compromises between speed, battery life, weight and screen size. There is no configuration that wins on all four, so the useful question is which of them you are willing to give up. Against the other 4139 laptops we list, this one sits towards the upper end of the range at R31 874, with most falling between R3 609 and R41 862.

Before you order

• If this is replacing something you already own, check the two are actually compatible rather than assuming.
• Read the specification rather than the headline — the number in the title is rarely the one that decides the fit.
• Memory is the specification most people under-buy. It is also the hardest to change later on thin machines where it is soldered.
