Worth knowing

A phone is the device most people replace least often and use most, so the specification that matters is the one you will still be happy with in two or three years — storage and battery far more than headline processor speed. Against the other 407 smartphones we list, this one sits around the middle of the range at R8 096, with most falling between R249 and R23 389.

Before you order

• Check the storage size against how you actually use a phone — photos and video fill a handset far faster than apps do.
• Compare this against the other options in the range before deciding, since the closest alternative is often a better fit.
• Battery capacity matters more than headline speed for most people. A phone that lasts the day beats one that benchmarks well.
• Look at the specification you will still care about in two years, not only the one that matters this week.
