A good fit for

This smartphone suits anyone who wants current hardware without a contract and daily personal use.

How to think about it

A phone is the device most people replace least often and use most, so the specification that matters is the one you will still be happy with in two or three years — storage and battery far more than headline processor speed. Against the other 407 smartphones we list, this one sits around the middle of the range at R5 695, with most falling between R249 and R23 389.

What to confirm

• Check what is included in the box, as bundled cables and adapters vary between models and regions.
• If you are moving from another phone, check what transfer tools the manufacturer provides so setup is not a manual job.
• Compare this against the other options in the range before deciding, since the closest alternative is often a better fit.
• Confirm the model supports the network bands you use before ordering, particularly if you move between providers.
