A good fit for

This desktop PC suits home offices with room for a tower and people who want upgradeable hardware.

How to think about it

Desktops give you more performance per rand than laptops and stay upgradeable for years, at the cost of being fixed to one place. For anyone who works at the same desk daily, that is usually the right trade. Against the other 1325 desktop PCs we list, this one sits around the middle of the range at R20 210, with most falling between R2 678 and R41 030.

What to confirm

• A desktop is the easiest machine to upgrade, so a modest starting configuration is less of a risk than on a laptop.
• Check the case size against the space you have, and whether the parts you might add later will fit.
• Where a listing offers several configurations, the difference is usually memory or storage rather than the core hardware.
