ATEN USB VGA/Audio Virtual Media with Dual Output KVM Adapter (KA7178)

The ATEN USB VGA/Audio Virtual Media with Dual Output KVM is a hub or dock, supplied in South Africa by ElectroGuy.

Key specifications

• Brand: Aten
• Model / MPN: KA7178
• Condition: New

Who this is for

It is a sensible fit for desk setups running several peripherals and laptops short on ports.

Some context

A hub shares one connection between several devices, so total bandwidth is finite. What the host laptop supports sets the ceiling, not the hub. Against the other 266 hubs and docks we list, this one sits towards the upper end of the range at R4 887, with most falling between R319 and R16 514.

Worth checking

• Check the exact model and variant against what you own before ordering, as compatibility is usually model-specific.
• Read the specification rather than the headline — the number in the title is rarely the one that decides the fit.
• If you are unsure whether this suits your setup, ask us before ordering rather than after.
• Confirm the variant matches the one you need; near-identical model codes often differ in one specification that matters.
• Compare this against the other options in the range before deciding, since the closest alternative is often a better fit.
