A good fit for

This laptop suits people who need a portable main machine and anyone replacing an ageing laptop.

How to think about it

A laptop is a set of compromises between speed, battery life, weight and screen size. There is no configuration that wins on all four, so the useful question is which of them you are willing to give up. Against the other 4139 laptops we list, this one sits around the middle of the range at R22 610, with most falling between R3 609 and R41 862.

What to confirm

• Check what is included in the box, as bundled cables and adapters vary between models and regions.
• Look at the specification you will still care about in two years, not only the one that matters this week.
• Memory is the specification most people under-buy. It is also the hardest to change later on thin machines where it is soldered.
